Steelheart Biography

::Steelheart::

SteelHeart released their self-titled debut album in 1990. It sold 33,000 albums on its first day in Japan alone. The ballad "She's Gone" which showcased Matijevic's incredible vocal range hit #1 on the International Charts, staying there for 17 weeks. The second single "I'll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)" reached #14 on the billboard charts and sold over 500,000 singles, making it MTV's 2nd most requested video. "Everybody Loves Eileen" and its accompanying video also garnered much success which led SteelHeart to platinum status. You can see all SteelHeartvideos on the SteelHeart Still Hard Live DVD.

SteelHeart's "Tangled In Reins" was a much more mixed combination than the debut, with rock songs like "Sticky Side Up" to smooth ballads such as "Mama Don't You Cry". Also, the song, "SteelHeart", featured Matijevic hitting his highest note of the three albums. Nearing the end of SteelHeart's "Tangled In Reins" tour, they were asked by the heavy metal band, Slaughter, to do one last show at the McNichols Arena in Denver Colorado. The show took place on Halloween night, a night which will forever be remembered by Steelheart fans. While performing, "Dancing in the Fire", a hit from the "Tangled in Reins" album. Matijevic decided to climb a lighting truss, which was improperly secured, he tried to dodge the massive rig, but without success. The 1000 pound truss hit Matijevic on the back of the head, driving one of the greatest vocalists of all time, face first into the stage, breaking his nose, cheekbone, jaw and twisting his spine. Matijevic miraculously found the strength to walk off the stage and he was immediately taken to a hospital. Matijevic’s life was turned upside down, suffering from traumatic brain injury and spent years rebuilding his life from the ground up.

Years later, Matijevic formed a new version of Steelheart with Kenny Kanowski (guitars), Vincent Mele (bass) and Alex Makarovich (drums) to record the album "Wait", which was only released in the Asian territory. The album was very different from the previous two albums. The single "Wait" went #1 in many Asian countries and the song “We All Die Young” was re-recorded as the theme song for the movie ROCK STAR, which http://steelheart.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&cPath=2&products_id=1Matijevic provided the voice for Mark Wahlberg's character in the movie. The band itself was made up of Zakk Wylde, Jeff Pilson and Jason Bonham.

Steelheart’s evolution has been a story of success, tragedy and the triumph of the human spirit. Matijevic's powerful voice, multi-octave range and creative vision has always been the heart and soul of the band. Although they began as a glam band in the early 90s, Matijevic's Steelheart is a new sound, which is modern and edgy while still retaining overtones of Matijevic's roots. His new album "Good 2B Alive" will be released on September 15th 2008 on SteelHeart Records. The album has been described as a “modern day “Zeppelin” and is said to be well worth the wait. You can hear samples of the new album on the “Just A Taste EP” featured on the website at www.steelheart.com and www.myspace.com/steelheart2

Full power and full of heart, SteelHeart has broken the mold and has reached new horizons. Performing their old hits, songs from the movie ROCK STAR and songs from his up coming album "Good 2B Alive". This is one show you do not want to miss.
